Omniva has set the cornerstone for its new state-of-the-art logistics center based in Tallinn, Estonia. The facility will cover 13,000m² (140,000ft²) and will be the most modern logistics center in the Baltic region, according to Omniva.

The project represents the largest investment Omniva has ever made, with costs, inclusive of the sorting technology, amounting to €17.2m (US$20.3m). The world-class sorting line will form the core of the logistics center, which is scheduled for completion in the autumn of 2018. The sorter will divide parcels into 400 different containers and will work three times faster than the current system.

Ansi Arumeel, member of the Omniva management board, said, “Looking back on the Christmas volumes of previous years and the estimated volumes of this year, it is obvious that building the new logistics center is fully justified. Our current building at the edge of Lasnamäe district is simply too small for us.”

The logistics center will be located in the municipality Rae near Tallinn, where it will have easy access to the airport and the rest of Estonia. The center will employ 200 staff in the sorting center and another 75 in the attached office building. In 2016, Omniva employed more than 2,200 people in the Baltics and produced turnover of €95m (US$112m).
