Müller UK & Ireland has outlined plans to expand logistics operations at its Skelmersdale site in West Lancashire, UK as part of a wider transformation of the facility, including the construction of a new in-house logistics hub.
The dairy company said the investment is intended to strengthen capacity and supply chain resilience as demand for dairy products continues to grow. Central to the next phase of development is a dedicated logistics hub designed to accommodate up to 65 milk collection vehicles, supporting dairy raw milk collection from supplying farms.
Müller said bringing logistics operations fully on-site will give it greater control over transportation planning, fleet operations and service reliability, while supporting its ambition to develop Skelmersdale into a flagship location for milk drying and dairy ingredients production.
The new logistics hub is expected to create up to 90 roles, including drivers, driver trainers, vehicle technicians and logistics support staff. Recruitment will focus on strengthening in-house expertise across transportation operations and vehicle maintenance.
Müller has confirmed it has entered into a collective consultation process at the site to review future operational requirements. While up to 90 existing roles could be affected by the proposed changes, the company said no decisions will be taken until the consultation is complete and that opportunities for redeployment across its wider network will be explored.
Rob Hutchison, CEO of Müller Milk & Ingredients, said the investment would improve logistics capability while supporting long-term operational resilience. “We’re investing in a flagship facility that will set new standards for milk drying, dairy ingredients products and logistics,” he said.
