National postal operator Lithuania Post has unveiled its plans to install 22 new LP Express self-service parcel lockers across the Baltic nation.

The project will be delivered in two stages, with 11 new lockers being installed in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Kupiškis, Garliava and Kurš?nai by October 2016. The 11 other lockers will be installed in undisclosed locations throughout October and November.

Juozas Buitkus, director of Baltic Post, a subsidiary of Lithuania Post, said, “We count that this year there were 50% more items sent via self-service parcel terminals than last year. The rapid expansion in e-commerce volumes and consistent annual growth in demand for the parcel terminals imposed an obligation to create even more options for people to conveniently send and collect items.

“The expansion of the parcel terminal network will involve both large and smaller cities as e-commerce has become increasingly prevalent in the regions.”

There are currently 80 self-service LP Express parcel lockers installed in 41 towns and cities throughout Lithuania. The latest development will see 102 lockers in operation by the end of a year.
