A new multimillion-dollar parcel facility will open on the Sunshine Coast next year that will help Australia Post improve turnaround times and handle 16,000 parcels every day.
The state-of-the-art Sunshine Coast Parcel Facility will feature advanced automation systems to support the region’s growing parcel demand and will be able to handle 21,000 items during peak periods. It will also have enhanced safety and security features to improve team member safety by reducing touchpoints and manual handling with the installation of a large sorting system.
Rod Barnes, Australia Post executive general manager network operations, commented, “As one of Queensland’s fastest growing regions, our parcel volumes have increased 10% annually – well above the national average of 6%. With 164,000 locals shopping online in the past year, and areas like Caloundra, Buderim and Nambour recording above national average e-commerce growth, this new parcel facility will help us respond to that demand and deliver parcels to customers’ doors sooner.”
The announcement of the Sunshine Coast Parcel Facility follows Australia Post’s recent planned major infrastructure investments across New South Wales, with the development of six new greenfield sites in Tumut, Leeton, Casino, Deniliquin, Forbes and Byron Bay. Together, these investments will boost capacity and help improve delivery speed across the network.
