Australia Post has begun the multimillion-dollar rollout of solar, battery and LED lighting upgrades at 11 operational sites across Queensland as part of its wider decarbonization strategy.
The new upgrades are forecast to deliver carbon savings of more than 1,720 metric tons annually, the equivalent of taking approximately 665 passenger vehicles off the road each year.
According to Richard Pittard, Australia Post chief sustainability officer, the upgrades reflect the post’s commitment to delivering more sustainable services while supporting local industry.
“These energy upgrades are not only helping us reduce emissions but also build momentum as we target net zero by 2050,” he said. “This investment also supports our local communities by engaging regional contractors and suppliers.”
The upgrades form part of a growing suite of sustainability initiatives already underway in Queensland. These include the introduction of 605 electric delivery vehicles, as well as the opening of two modern facilities in Murarrie and the Gold Coast, developed with sustainability in mind.
