Austrian Post and energy company Verbund have announced a long-term partnership that will see electricity and natural gas tariffs offered through the postal operator’s network.
The new service, which is expected to launch in autumn 2026 at around 330 Austrian Post post offices and through digital sales channels, is part of a wider program by the postal operator to extend its range of services beyond traditional postal activities. The company has expanded into other consumer services in recent years, including banking through bank99 and mobile communications through Yelllow.
“Austrians already trust Austrian Post with important everyday services,” said Walter Oblin, CEO of Austrian Post. “In addition to packages and letters, we have successfully expanded our offerings in recent years with bank99 and our mobile phone service Yelllow. Together with Verbund, we will also offer electricity and natural gas rates in the future. In doing so, we are providing our customers with easy access to an important everyday service and consistently expanding the Austrian Post platform as a modern provider of basic services.”
Verbund is Austria’s largest energy producer and operates more than 130 hydropower plants in Austria and Bavaria. Michael Strugl, CEO, Verbund, commented, “With this joint energy offering, Austrian Post and Verbund are combining their strengths and laying the foundation for a strong, long-term partnership.
“As a leading energy provider, we offer our customers electricity generated from 100% domestic hydropower as well as innovative energy solutions for their homes. Together with Austrian Post, we’re bringing access to electricity and gas products to the places where people are already going in their daily lives.”
A second rollout phase is planned for early 2027, when the service is expected to be extended to more than 1,350 postal partners.
The specific electricity and natural gas tariffs that will be available have not yet been disclosed, with further information expected before the planned autumn launch.
