UPS has opened a new state-of-the-art sorting center in Mys?owice, Poland, which is capable of sorting up to 6,000 parcels an hour.

The 118,000ft² facility has parking positions for 170 delivery vehicles and will be home to more than 100 employees. The new facility replaces a 34,000ft² package facility located in Katowice.

Pavel Adamovsky, country manager, UPS Poland, said, “Poland is an important market for UPS and in the first quarter of this year we grew our export volume by more than 20%. This investment demonstrates our long-standing commitment to helping our customers in Poland grow and connect to markets all over the world.”

Mys?owice is within close proximity to several major business centers as well as Katowice International Airport, where UPS has invested in additional air cargo capacity. On April 2017, Katowice was connected to UPS’s European air hub in Cologne, Germany, by a 737-300 jet operated by ASL Airlines. The service provides UPS with a 25% uplift in cargo capacity over the two daily turboprop aircraft it replaced.

Daniel Carrera, president, UPS East Europe, said, “UPS has embarked on a US$2bn investment program in Europe. We’re now faster from Poland to the rest of Europe and we offer earlier guaranteed Express deliveries across Poland.”
