Royal Mail has announced that it will open six temporary parcel sorting centers as part of its peak season preparations.

Around 2,700 seasonal workers will be based in the temporary sorting centers around the UK and will help support Royal Mail’s 120,000 permanent employees. Last year, Royal Mail handled around 149 million parcels during the Christmas rush.

In total, Royal Mail Group plans to hire 23,000 seasonal workers this year across all its operations. This is the eighth year that Royal Mail has opened a dedicated network of parcel sorting centers and has become an integral part of its ability to handle the festive peak.

The parcel sort centers will be based in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland; Cardiff, Wales; Wakefield, West Yorkshire; Skelmersdale, West Lancashire; Atherstone, Warwickshire; and Greenford in West London.

Royal Mail has set up a dedicated website for people to apply for the Christmas positions at christmasrecruitment.royalmailgroup.com.
