Omniva has expanded its Picapac pilot program to the Nõmme district of Tallinn, offering residents the chance to test a private, at-home parcel locker system free of charge.
The rollout follows earlier pilot phases launched in Rae municipality in February and the Viimsi area in March. According to the company, interest in the service has been strong so far.
“In February, we launched the Picapac pilot project in Rae municipality and in March we expanded it to the Viimsi area. There has been great interest in the pilot project and now we invite the residents of Nõmme to participate,” said Aleksei Kolesnikov, product manager at Omniva Picapac. “In Nõmme, we can test how such a solution works in a more densely populated urban area.”
Picapac is designed as a private parcel machine installed at a user’s home, enabling parcels to be received, returned and sent. The system is not limited to Omniva deliveries and can also be used by other parcel operators, food couriers and service providers.
The company said the system is intended for consumers who frequently send or receive parcels, offering a more direct alternative to public parcel lockers.
“Omniva’s goal is to bring the world closer to people. To do this, our services must also be located where people actually live and move. The Picapac parcel machine brings the sending and receiving of parcels just a step away,” said Martti Kuldma, chairman of the management board of Omniva.
As part of the Nõmme pilot, Omniva will install a limited number of units at private houses and terraced homes. While installation and use of Picapac is typically a paid service, participants in the pilot will be able to use it free of charge.
Residents can apply to join the program, with Omniva selecting participants and making individual offers based on suitability. The number of available places is limited.
If the pilot proves successful, Omniva said it plans to expand the Picapac solution to other residential areas in Tallinn and Harju County.
