Omniva is expanding its Picapac private parcel locker pilot project to Viimsi, offering residents the opportunity to trial a parcel locker installed at their doorstep free of charge.
The initiative follows the launch of the pilot in February in the Rae municipality, including the areas of Peetri, Järveküla and Uuesalu. According to Omniva, the project has received strong interest from residents.
“We launched the Picapac pilot project in February in Rae municipality,” said Aleksei Kolesnikov, Picapac product manager at Omniva. “The project has generated strong interest and applications continue to come in. Based on the success of the Rae pilot, we decided to expand the project to the Viimsi area starting in March.”
Picapac lockers are part of Omniva’s parcel locker network and enable users to receive, return and send parcels. The lockers can also be used by other service providers, including parcel delivery companies and food couriers.
According to Omniva, the system is aimed at households and small businesses that frequently use parcel delivery services.
“We know that Estonians strongly prefer parcel lockers, and proximity to home is the most important factor when choosing one,” said Martti Kuldma, CEO of Omniva. “A Picapac parcel locker can be installed right at your doorstep, allowing you to receive and send parcels without waiting for a courier or driving to a public parcel locker.”
Kuldma added that the lockers could also handle postal items in the future: “In essence, it is a smart mailbox that could also receive postal items in the near future.”
As part of the Viimsi pilot, Omniva will install a limited number of Picapac lockers next to private homes and terraced houses. The project aims to assess demand for private parcel lockers and evaluate how a denser network could improve last-mile delivery efficiency.
Participants in the pilot will be able to use the service without charge during the trial period, although installation and use would normally involve a fee.
Residents in Viimsi can apply to join the pilot project through an online application form, with places limited. Omniva will review applications and contact selected participants with individual offers.
If the Viimsi trial proves successful, Omniva says it plans to expand the Picapac solution to other residential areas near Tallinn, including Kakumäe and Tabasalu.
