Australia Post is planning a restoration and upgrade of its Yass Post Office, a heritage building that the company says has served the community since the 1880s.
The post said some deterioration has occurred to the building’s exterior, but the post office remains open and is operating as usual.
The company said it is in the early stages of planning the restoration, which it said will enhance services including parcel delivery, financial services such as Bank@Post, identification services, and retail items including core postal products.
Free 24/7 parcel lockers will be installed, enabling customers to collect online purchases. The lockers will also support returns, with customers able to drop off pre-paid packages by following the merchant’s instructions.
Sarah Coe, general manager retail operations at Australia Post, said preserving the Yass Post Office is about investing in the future and respecting its history: “The Yass Post Office has been serving the local community for more than a century, and we’re now focused on its refresh. Restoration work takes careful planning, and we can’t wait to unveil our new, upgraded post office.”
Australia Post said it will provide an update on construction to the community as planning progresses.
