Parcel delivery and logistics provider Hermes has secured a new online delivery contract for customers of discount retailer Poundland Group. The move comes after Poundland recently launched a trial for a new online shopping service.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hermes will provide a 4-5 working day delivery service to all UK-based Poundland consumers. The new online store offers over 2,000 products, including a mixture of household brands and Poundland’s own products. The service will have a flat £4 (US$6) delivery fee per order with no minimum order value. Orders over £50 (US$76) receive free delivery.

Jim McCarthy, chief executive of Poundland, said, “The online shopping market is a rapidly growing channel and one which could provide a significant opportunity for us. This trial is an important first step toward giving more customers access to our amazing value. We are delighted to team up with Hermes to offer this exciting service.”

Mark Pettit, sales and marketing director at Hermes, said, “By utilizing our specialist knowledge and experience, we can supply industry-leading delivery solutions that provide exceptional value to any organization. We look forward to helping Poundland succeed in this new online venture.”
