Ukrainian postal operator Ukrposhta has introduced a new self-service parcel collection format, installing express delivery lockers inside branches to enable customers to collect shipments without waiting for an operator.
When a parcel is ready for collection, the customer receives an SMS containing an access code, which they use to open their designated locker and retrieve their delivery. The lockers operate within branch opening hours and sit alongside the existing counter service, which remains available as before.
Ihor Smilyansky, CEO of Ukrposhta, said, “We have long been looking for a way to diversify the flows of customers: those who come only for the parcels and those who use other services – from utility payments to international postal transfers. The tests are still ongoing, but it is already clear: you can receive a parcel at Ukrposhta without a queue.”
The company distinguishes the new lockers from conventional parcel lockers in that they are located inside branches rather than operating as standalone units.
The rollout will initially cover 400 branches, prioritizing cities with populations of over one million and regional centers. A pilot has already launched in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, where the first 120 lockers have been installed.
Ukrposhta describes the initiative as part of a broader service overhaul. The operator says that now it has completed full automation of its sorting processes and built out infrastructure with a potential capacity of up to three million shipments per day, it is now focusing on transforming the customer experience. This includes expanding its network of post offices, partner delivery points and new in-branch collection formats.
