Austrian Post has agreed to acquire 100% of Delivery Solutions, the Hungarian parcel service provider operating under the Sameday Hungary brand, strengthening its position in the country’s out-of-home and parcel delivery market.
Sameday Hungary will be integrated into Express One Hungary, a wholly owned subsidiary of Austrian Post. All employees will transfer to the new organization with their existing employment contracts unchanged. Customer agreements, including a contract with Hungarian online retailer eMAG, will also be retained. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The acquisition includes Sameday Hungary’s infrastructure, including around 1,100 parcel lockers, thus doubling Express One Hungary’s parcel locker network and giving it one of the largest out-of-home parcel delivery networks in Hungary, according to Austrian Post.
Completion of the transaction is subject to approval by competition authorities and foreign direct investment regulators.
Walter Oblin, CEO of Austrian Post, said, “Shortly after acquiring the Bulgarian e-commerce service provider euShipments.com, we are taking another step toward growth in Eastern Europe. The acquisition of Sameday Hungary aligns with our strategy of further growth in the international parcel business through targeted acquisitions.”
Oblin added that the deal strengthens Austrian Post’s market position in Hungary and provides a platform for innovation and expansion across Southeast and Eastern Europe.
Peter Umundum, deputy CEO and executive board member for parcel and logistics at Austrian Post, said, “With the construction of the new Express One Hungary logistics center in Budapest and the expansion of our network of parcel stations, we are underscoring our commitment as an attractive parcel service provider in our neighboring country.”
Lucian Baltaru, CEO of the Sameday Group, said, “This decision is a logical next step in the company’s development, supporting the next phase of our growth and allowing us to focus our resources where we can have the greatest impact.”
Baltaru added that Hungary had been Sameday’s first international market and said Express One Hungary and Austrian Post would continue the company’s approach to flexible and predictable courier services.
