DHL Supply Chain has launched its newest logistics center in Halle, Germany, establishing the company’s third site in the area.
The hub is now fully operational and integrated into the broader DHL Leipzig-Halle campus, with a total warehouse area of 34,000m2 and the capacity to accommodate 55,000 pallet spaces.
It includes three operational halls spanning 10,500m2 and is equipped with 27 loading docks. The building was designed to meet the highest sustainability standards (DGNB Gold), featuring photovoltaic systems and energy-efficient LED lighting. It is said to be carbon neutral.
The site currently employs more than 450 people, with an additional 100 jobs to be created once the extension building is being fully used.
Aiste Slabokaite Hed, business unit director North-East at DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps, said the center offered a ‘comprehensive range’ of logistics solutions for customers across a range of industries, and that its proximity to Leipzig Airport (LEJ) enabled a late cut-off time of 10:30pm for next-day global deliveries. “Our offerings range from warehousing and picking – including hazardous materials and batteries – to value-added services and complex automated solutions, all executed by our skilled and experienced team. The new logistics center also supports the growth of existing customers already based on the DHL campus,” she commented.
The facility also benefits from multimodal transportation connections, including access to the national DHL parcel and express network, the rail and highway network, and the Leipzig-Halle freight airport – home to the world’s largest DHL Express air freight hub for global air cargo shipments.
Katrin Hölter, the CEO of DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps, said, “With the addition of the second logistics center in Halle an der Saale, we are expanding our capabilities to accelerate sustainable growth in the technology sector and beyond.
“We still have space available for additional customers to benefit from our efficient operations, our experienced team and strategic location,” she added.
