Belgian postal operator bpost will hit a new sustainability milestone this fall when its fleet totals 3,000 electric delivery vans.
The company has placed an order for 500 additional e-vans, bringing the total number of e-vans to 3,146 by the end of this year and making it the largest and greenest operational fleet in Belgium.
The vans will be deployed just in time for the peak in November and December, when bpost will deliver up to 800,000 parcels each day. Of all those parcels, bpost already delivers 26% emission-free to their destination; the long-term goal is to ensure all parcels in Belgium reach their destinations without emissions by 2030.
To help achieve this goal, bpost has also added a second electric truck to its fleet this year for transporting parcels between sorting centers at Antwerp, Liège and Charleroi.
In related news, DHL has announced it will deploy 2,400 new e-vans from Ford Pro by the end of 2025 to enhance its delivery fleet in the German parcel and postal sector
