DHL Group and Longi Solar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation on the deployment of renewable energy and lower-emission logistics.
The agreement covers the deployment of distributed solar solutions, including Longi’s building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) technology, across DHL facilities in Europe. The technology uses high-efficiency back-contact cells designed to maximize energy yield on large commercial rooftops while maintaining long-term reliability.
The MoU builds on an existing logistics relationship between the two companies. DHL currently supports Longi through Express, DHL Global Forwarding Ocean Freight and DGF Industrial Projects services, including factory moving solutions. Under the expanded partnership, DHL will broaden this support to match Longi’s global growth, adding enhanced B2C logistics, marketing-related fulfillment services and tailored logistics for Longi’s new battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio.
Michael Wiedemann, president of the energy sector at DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation, said, “Our collaboration with Longi reflects how renewable-energy innovation and global logistics excellence can reinforce each other. Alongside deploying Longi’s solar technologies across our operations, we are supporting their global expansion with integrated services that help bring their solutions to market faster.”
Alex Li, general manager of Western Europe at Longi, said, “Longi is proud to partner with DHL Group to support the integration of solar energy into large-scale logistics infrastructure. The partnership with DHL provides a strong platform to scale these solutions globally, supporting DHL’s sustainability journey.”
Under the MoU, the two companies plan to collaborate on deploying Longi’s solar technologies at DHL sites, co-developing solar-plus-storage solutions for logistics applications, and jointly exploring renewable hydrogen and other renewable-energy concepts. The agreement also covers early-access and co-creation initiatives to pilot Longi innovations within DHL’s network, expanded logistics support for Longi, and ongoing senior executive collaboration to track progress.
The partnership fits within DHL’s wider sustainability roadmap, which includes modernizing facilities, improving building efficiency and expanding the use of renewable energy across its network. Solar is one of eight segments – alongside wind, EV and batteries, battery and energy storage systems, EV charging, grid, and alternative fuel and hydrogen – that DHL is targeting under its Strategy 2030: Accelerating Sustainable Growth plan, which identifies new energy as a key growth sector.
