Datalogic, a global leader in automatic data capture and industrial automation markets, has signed an agreement with Royal Mail to implement new automated parcel sorting systems in around 20 UK mail centers.

The new machines will improve the speed and efficiency of parcel sortation at mail centers nationwide, and will also enhance the tracking of barcoded parcels within Royal Mail’s network.

Each system will automatically unload arriving parcels and will feature transportation conveyors, induction equipment and other hardware devices designed to increase efficiency.

Datalogic will provide a turnkey solution comprising design engineering, software, controls, program management, subcontractor management, installation, commissioning as well as training support for the automated systems. It will also include dimension, weigh and scan systems (DWS) and robust MIS/IS support. Overall, the order has a total value of around €29m (US$32.5m).

Valentina Volta, CEO of Datalogic Industrial Automation, said, “Our postal operations experience, the ability to evaluate and integrate the right technology, and our flexible working philosophy with our customers are all key factors that have secured our position to be Royal Mail’s supplier of choice. We are very proud that such a demanding and important player in the postal market has chosen Datalogic as a preferred supplier.”
