myHermes adjusts weight bands for small and medium sized parcels

UK-based courier myHermes has gone head-to-head with competitors such as Royal Mail by altering its parcel weight bands for smaller and medium sized parcels.

The move is designed to make it easier for both small businesses and consumers to compare prices against other delivery firms. This will enable organizations and individuals to benefit from selecting the best prices when sending parcels of different sizes.

Traditionally, myHermes customers have paid incremental shipping costs as the weight of the parcel increases, ranging from 1kg (2.2 lb) to 15kg (33 lb). The delivery firm has now created two new weight bands named 0-2kg (4.4 lb) Small and 0-2kg (4.4 lb) Medium.

Consumers sending parcels under 2kg (4.4 lb) in weight, and equal or less than 45cm (17.7in) x 35cm (13.8in) x 16cm (6.3in), will be able to take advantage of the smaller category, while parcels measuring more than those dimensions can be sent using the 0-2kg (4.4 lb) Medium band.

Despite the adjustments, prices will remain the same and will include track-and-trace services and free parcel cover up to the value of £25 (US$32).

Eoin Kenneally, head of e-commerce at myHermes, said, “This adjustment brings our parcel weight bands in line with many of our competitors and will therefore provide sole traders, SMEs and independent retailers with the ability to better compare shipping costs. By enhancing transparency across the marketplace, we will ensure more consumers can benefit from the true value for money offered by myHermes’ range of services.”
