DX has launched a parcel depot in Basildon, Essex, UK – the first of eight new parcel depots that it intends to open over the group’s current financial year ending July 1, 2023.

The new depot will be dedicated to next-day delivery of parcels and documents for B2B and B2C customers. It will primarily serve the Southend and Chelmsford areas and supplement DX Express’s existing depot in Harlow as well. In addition to increasing the division’s parcel capacity, it is intended to improve service levels by providing customers in the region with more localized support.

The new depot will support the continuing expansion of the group’s DX Express division, which manages the parcel operations. DX is investing to support the long-term growth of its two divisions, DX Express and DX Freight, and is currently in the second year of a £20-£25m (US$22.9-28.6m) group-wide investment program. As well as directing funds toward expanding and upgrading its delivery network, DX is investing in vehicles, including electric vans, equipment and new technology.

Martin Illidge, managing director of DX Express, commented, “The new depot in Basildon is the first of eight new DX Express sites planned for this financial year. They will help to support the continuing growth of our parcel service, with the new site reinforcing our presence in Essex. An important element in growing our parcels operation has been our model of providing a high-quality, more localized and personal service, and we look forward to further expansion, which the group is supporting with significant new investment.”
