DHL Express Italy has inaugurated its new Hub, Gateway & Service Center at the Milan Malpensa Airport in northern Italy. As a partner of DHL Express Italy, automation specialist Fives designed the facilities sorting system, which incorporates the following elements:

  • 4 GENI-Belt crossbelt sorters covering more than 1.5km
  • 30 GENI-Feed high-capacity induction lines
  • 11 x-ray machines
  • 313 destinations
  • Over 2,250m of conveyor belts and rollers

The hub receives DHL express shipments from air traffic and road traffic to process and load onto DHL vehicles and airplanes for transport to their final destination in a very short time. Meanwhile, the crossbelt sorters receive parcels and envelopes from the high-capacity introduction lines and accurately transport each item to the assigned destination, where it is discharged into the outlet without tilting or rolling. The conveyor systems connect the sorting equipment with all other handling and processing points inside the hub.
