Australia Post is to expand its operations in regional Victoria with the opening of a new post office in Ballarat’s Bridge Mall. Set to open in February, the Ballarat Central Post Office will feature a modern, flexible design with a smaller footprint and an upgraded back-of-house layout to handle increasing parcel volumes.
The new site will offer Australia Post’s full suite of services, including parcel delivery, Bank@Post financial services, identification services and a range of retail products. Free 24/7 parcel lockers will also be installed to give customers access to online orders. The lockers will also support returns, allowing users to drop off pre-paid parcels according to merchant instructions.
Australia Post general manager of retail operations, Kate Foley, said the investment reflects the organization’s commitment to improving access for the local community. “We’re focused on making it easier for locals and businesses to access the services they need – when and how it suits them. This post office has been designed with efficiency and simplicity in mind, while supporting the growing demand for parcel services.”
The Ballarat Central Post Office will replace the nearby Bakery Hill Business Centre. Australia Post confirmed there will be no change to postal services during the move, and all PO boxes will be transferred without changes to box numbers, keys or addresses. Minor temporary service interruptions may occur ahead of opening, with customers to be advised in advance.
The announcement comes two years after Australia Post opened its parcel delivery center in Ballarat, which processes up to 12,000 parcels each day.
