New Zealand Post has announced that it will no longer be offering customers its FastPost priority mail service from January 1, 2018. The post has said that it is making the change following a review of its priority mail network.

New Zealand Post has said that customers will be able to use courier products as an alternative way for sending their priority mail. Currently only 1% of all mail is sent using FastPost and the service has declined by 23% in the last year.

The post has said that overall letter volumes continue to decline significantly, at a rate of approximately 60 million items a year. For business customers, a new priority mail service will be introduced between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

The cancellation of the service is part of New Zealand Post’s efforts to improve efficiency, save costs, and maintain a commercially viable postal network.
