Spring GDS has launched the Postal Delivered Duty Paid (Postal DDP) shipping solution, offering e-commerce businesses shipping to the USA a reliable, customs-compliant solution in response to recent regulatory changes.
In August 2025, the US$800 de-minimis threshold was removed, alongside the recent introduction of new tariffs and stricter customs regulations.
The solution, built on a direct agreement with parent company PostNL and the US Postal Service (USPS), is said to offer a fully customs-cleared, cost-effective and highly predictable way to ship goods to the USA, and has been designed for modern online e-commerce retailers.
Thijs Boel, managing director – Europe, at Spring, said, “Our focus is on empowering cross-border e-commerce through solutions that simplify complexity. With PDDP, together with our commercial solution, we’re offering our customers a clear path forward – combining compliance, transparency and efficient delivery even amid major regulatory shifts.”
Key features
The PDDP adapts to the post-de minimis landscape by ensuring all customs duties and paid in advance. This enables customers in the USA to receive parcels without surprise charges at the point of delivery, delays or abandoned carts caused by uncleared fees.
Duties are calculated based on product value and country-of-origin tariffs under the IEEPA framework – providing predictability.
USPS will provide last-mile delivery, ensuring nationwide coverage across the USA, including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and other US territories.
Pricing has been optimized for lightweight parcels, making the solution particularly useful for e-commerce brands that ship smaller, high-frequency items.
Businesses can manage and track all shipments to various destinations using one unified platform, in a move to simplify operations while maintaining full visibility across the entire delivery chain.
Spring GDS also offers the Commercial DDP service for businesses with higher-value shipments of over US$800. Fully managed by Spring GDS though selected third-party providers, it is said to offer the same reliability but with larger flexibility for larger and more complex assignments.
