Crisplant has completed the handover of a state-of-the-art automated parcel sorting system to one of China’s largest e-tailers, JD.com.

The handover of the system, installed in JD.com’s Shanghai-based Asia No.1 Warehouse, represents the first stage in the e-tailer’s strong growth strategy. This strategy includes the creation of industry-leading warehousing and logistics infrastructure to support its 105 million active customers and to increase the efficiency of its operation, which shipped over 689 million orders in 2014.

The automated parcel sorting system is based on a Crisplant LS-4000CB cross-belt sorter, which combines high-speed and accurate sortation with low energy consumption. Seven conveyor lines are suspended from the ceiling to maximize floor-space and the 833ft long Crisplant sorter provides destination sorting to 131 chutes. The new system provides JD.com with the capacity to handle up to 13,521 items per hour. JD.com accounted for more than 56% of China’s direct B2C e-commerce market in Q1 of 2015.
