Cainiao has expanded its local express network in Mexico from 20 states to full nationwide coverage, the company announced on August 28. It has also launched local pickup services in Mexico City and the State of Mexico.
The expansion builds on the company’s customs clearance capabilities and self-operated network in the country, where it has partnerships with cross-border and local e-commerce platforms, including Inditex, Mercado Libre, Temu and TikTok.
Cainiao vice president Shen Jianfeng said Mexico’s logistics market is experiencing growing and diversifying demand, with cross-border sellers seeking stable, compliant customs clearance and domestic sellers pushing for broader coverage and faster delivery.
“In response, Cainiao has continued to upgrade its logistics network in Mexico over the past year, improving local fulfillment efficiency and reliability through integrated services,” Shen reported.
For cross-border customers, the company said it has strengthened customs clearance capabilities, combining clearance with last-mile delivery so parcels move through its network from arrival to delivery under a single system, which it said reduces delays linked to multiple handoffs.
For local e-commerce, Cainiao said its expanded pickup network now covers Mexico City and the State of Mexico, with two-day delivery in major areas of both regions and three-day delivery to key cities elsewhere in the country. The company said it uses AI-powered dispatching, route planning, and address and image recognition to improve last-mile accuracy.
Since entering Mexico in 2024, Cainiao says it has built a 20,000m2 sorting center and 38 consolidation and delivery stations. The sorting center is near Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), a major cargo hub, which the company said supports faster inbound transfer and processing. Cainiao said it plans to add further automation at the facility to improve sorting efficiency and peak-season capacity.
“Mexico’s cross-border and domestic e-commerce sectors are both growing rapidly, making the market a key focus for Cainiao,” Shen said. “We will continue to strengthen our local network and team capabilities.”
