FedEx Corp. has launched FedEx Life Sciences, a dedicated organization created to support the movement of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biologics, clinical trials and other healthcare shipments.
The new organization combines the FedEx global network with a dedicated healthcare team and advanced monitoring capabilities, aimed at serving pharmaceutical and healthcare professionals as supply chains for temperature-sensitive therapies, clinical trial materials and patient-critical shipments become more complex and regulated.
Nick Gennari has been appointed president of healthcare and life sciences, focusing exclusively on the new segment. Gennari joined FedEx in 1992 and spent much of his more than 30-year tenure driving strategic sales and supply chain solutions for global healthcare, aerospace and high-tech customers, before taking leadership of the healthcare vertical in 2024. FedEx said Gennari and his team’s efforts have helped grow its healthcare revenue to approximately US$10bn globally.
Brie Carere, executive vice president and chief customer officer at FedEx, said, “Healthcare depends on access, and access depends on certainty. Every shipment we move in this space has the potential to support a researcher, a physician, a clinician, a caregiver, or most importantly, a patient waiting for care. FedEx Life Sciences brings together our global network, advanced monitoring capabilities, and healthcare-focused expertise to help make supply chains smarter and more resilient.”
The launch builds on existing investments in healthcare infrastructure. In 2025, FedEx secured IATA CEIV Pharma Corporate Certification, covering ground handling across its air hubs and ramps, and the company has also appointed a vice president of global quality, healthcare and life sciences to oversee quality management systems.
FedEx has expanded its life sciences footprint to six Life Sciences Centers globally, and a direct flight between Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dublin, Ireland, has strengthened transatlantic connectivity between the two pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs. These assets are supported by FedEx Surround, a machine learning-based monitoring and intervention service that provides end-to-end visibility for critical shipments and helps identify potential disruptions.
Gennari said, “Healthcare supply chains are becoming more complex, and the stakes are deeply personal. FedEx Life Sciences gives our customers a more focused team, stronger coordination and specialized expertise to help them move critical healthcare shipments with confidence.”
