GXO Logistics has been selected by BMW Group to manage warehouse operations at the auto maker’s Swindon manufacturing site in the UK, as part of efforts to optimize supply chain performance and support production resilience.
Under the agreement, GXO will oversee the handling of car parts at the facility, which produces pressed components for Mini vehicles assembled at BMW Group’s Oxford plant and for other BMW models manufactured globally. The partnership is intended to strengthen supply chain operations supporting automotive production across the UK.
Martin Cooper, managing director for technology and consumer goods at GXO UK and Ireland, said the company would focus on improving efficiency and resilience at the site. “We’re excited to begin this new chapter with BMW Group at their facility in Swindon,” he said. “We’ve seen great success applying smart logistics solutions across a range of industries, and we look forward to driving efficiencies, strengthening resilience and building a futureproof platform for growth for BMW Group.”
GXO said it plans to introduce updated processes, technology enhancements and layout changes at the facility to improve operational efficiency and support evolving production requirements linked to the Oxford assembly plant.
The Swindon site employs more than 500 staff and covers approximately 425,000m². It has operated since 1955 and produces body components and subassemblies including doors, bonnets, tailgates and fenders for Mini models such as the Mini Cooper three- and five-door hatch and the Mini Convertible.
The contract represents an expansion of GXO’s activity into the UK automotive sector. The company said it will draw on its experience in automation, data-driven logistics and continuous improvement to support BMW Group’s production network and changing manufacturing needs.
