Polish postal operator Poczta Polska has signed a strategic agreement with parcel delivery company Orlen Paczka to create a new entity aimed at reshaping the country’s courier services.
The agreement, which was announced on September 26, will see Poczta Polska acquire a minority stake in Orlen Paczka with the option to acquire 100% of the company in the future.
As well as combining their respective logistics services, the new company will provide access to more than 30,000 parcel collection points across Poland. This will be a combination of Orlen Paczka’s 14,000 service points, including 7,000 automated parcel lockers, and Poczta Polska’s 20,000 locations, comprising post offices, partner retailer outlets and its own parcel machines.
“Both we and Orlen have the will to combine our courier services in the near future, which today are more or less of a similar size,” said Sebastian Mikosz, president of Poczta Polska. “Therefore, we want to create a courier service provider on a very competitive market in Poland, which will be a stronger player due to the merger of both companies.”
