Cainiao and Qatar Airways Cargo have launched an extended strategic partnership to enhance global connectivity and accelerate cross-border e-commerce delivery.
The agreement, which was formally signed on September 10, will see Cainiao more than double its weekly charter flights on key China-Europe routes, leveraging Qatar Airways Cargo’s global network. This will create a broader flight schedule, giving merchants greater flexibility and choice in planning and delivering exports to Europe, while providing stronger support for Chinese businesses expanding internationally, according to Cainiao.
“Partnering with Qatar Airways Cargo – a globally renowned industry airline leader known for its operational excellence and unmatched global reach – further strengthens our global logistics network and underscores our commitment to delivering world-class e-commerce experiences,” confirmed Wan Lin, chief executive officer at Cainiao.
“Back in 2023, we set new industry benchmarks with the launch of our Global 5-Day Delivery service. This partnership is another step in our ongoing efforts to enhance our product competitiveness and deliver the resilience, speed and flexibility that today’s fast-changing commerce landscape demands. Together with our partners, we are steadily advancing toward our vision of global delivery within 72 hours,” he added.
Mark Drusch, chief officer cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo, added, “China is one of the most important trade partners globally, playing a pivotal role in the evolution of e-commerce and continuing to drive the highest demand for air cargo capacity worldwide.
“By combining the strengths of Qatar Airways Cargo – our expansive global network and cutting-edge fleet – with Cainiao’s leadership in e-commerce logistics, we are uniquely positioned to deliver unmatched connectivity and service to customers. This partnership enables us to meet the fast-changing needs of the global e-commerce market and reinforces our presence in one of the world’s busiest and most strategic trade corridors.”
Expansion into Eurasian markets
Cainiao has also announced the expansion of its Global 5‑Day Delivery cross‑border express service into six core Eurasian markers by the end of this year – Vietnam, Hungary, Singapore, Qatar, the Philippines and Austria.
The service is now available to all cross‑border e‑commerce platforms and exporters, delivering an industry‑leading, ultra‑fast fulfilment solution, according to Cainiao.
William Xiong, senior vice president and general manager of cross‑border logistics at Cainiao Group, explained, “As a global leader in cross‑border e‑commerce logistics, Cainiao has built a network covering more than 200 countries globally and currently provides cross‑border logistics services to 90% of the world’s leading cross‑border e‑commerce platforms. Driven by ‘AI technology + precision operations,’ we have raised China‑to‑Europe transit times to a new industry benchmark of five calendar days. Looking ahead, Cainiao Global 5‑Day Delivery will cover more world’s core e‑commerce markets, using predictable transit times to support high‑quality growth in global cross‑border e‑commerce.”
Cainiao launched the Global 5‑Day cross‑border express product with AliExpress in September 2023, covering overseas markets including the UK, Spain and the Netherlands.
