UPS opens driver-training facility in Texas

Logistics and parcel delivery firm UPS has opened its seventh next-generation driver training facility in McKinney, Texas, USA.

The new Integrad facility helps UPS drivers to develop their delivery skills in a controlled environment using 3D computer simulations, webcast learning modules, and traditional classroom instructions. The courses are designed to enhance performance in safety, delivery and customer service.

One of the facility’s notable features is an outside course designed to mimic a small town. Arrayed with small houses and street signs, ‘Clarkville USA’ provides drivers with realistic situations they would encounter in their daily pickup and delivery activity. These include safe driving and package handling procedures, alternating delivery scenarios and attention to detail.

Joe Finamore, vice president of global leadership and talent development, UPS, said, “The next-generation curriculum teaches drivers time-tested work methods in an experiential learning setting. The skills UPS drivers learn here are reinforced and practiced throughout their careers.

“UPS Integrad teaches the same methods used by UPS drivers in the Circle of Honor – an elite group of more than 8,700 active UPS drivers who have driven without experiencing an avoidable accident for 25 years or more.”
