New Zealand Post has donated 30 second-hand delivery bicycles to South Auckland charity Mangere BikeFIT, which promotes healthy lifestyles by teaching children and adults to ride and maintain bikes.

BikeFIT received seven decommissioned bicycles from the post this week, with the rest to follow as soon as they become available.

Mark Stewart, acting chief operating officer, New Zealand Post, said, “We take care of our postal workers’ bikes, so even after five years of use when the bikes are due for replacement, they are in good condition and can be given to groups like BikeFIT.

“We are very supportive of BikeFIT’s aim to get more people out on bikes and our staff will be pleased to see the bicycles put to such good use in the community.”

Teau Aiturau, BikeFIT coordinator and chairman of the Time to Thrive to Stay Alive Charitable Trust, said, “We want to get whole families riding bikes and we’re grateful for the donation.”
