TNT UK has become the first express parcel carrier in the UK to achieve international recognition for its approach to energy management, after securing ISO 50001 certification following an independent audit by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).

Alongside ISO 50001, TNT UK also gained ISO 14001 for environmental management, ISO 9001 for operational management, and OHSAS 18001 for health and safety management.

The key initiatives helping TNT UK to minimize its energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint include the installation of energy efficient LED lighting at more than 90 of its buildings; using route optimization software for its fleet of 3,000 vehicles; introducing double deck and longer length trailers with increased load capacity; and the use of electrically-powered pick-up and delivery vehicles within the carrier’s city locations.

Marianne Culver, managing director of TNT UK, said, “As one of the UK’s leading fleet operators we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously, which is why we are very pleased to have received this independent verification of our approach.”
