Australia Post introduces rate increases and priority service for mail

Australia Post has changed its letters service to offer a choice of Priority and Regular postage options for sending letters within Australia. The service had been available to business customers since June 2014 but has now been rolled out nationwide.

The Priority letters service offers delivery within one to four business days depending on destination, while the Regular service is up to two business days longer.

To send a Priority letter, customers will need to purchase a Priority label from their local post office or the Australia Post online shop and place it next to the Regular stamp.

The post’s basic postage rate (BPR) has increased from A$0.70 (US$0.50) to A$1 (US$0.70) for Regular stamps, whereas a Priority label will cost A$0.50 (US$0.35).

Australia Post will continue to maintain the concession stamp price at A$0.60 (US$0.40), which is available to 5.7 million eligible Australians, and seasonal greeting cards will stay at A$0.65 (US$0.45). Together concession and seasonal greeting mail accounts for almost half of all mail sent by consumers annually.
