Postal delivery and logistics provider Omniva has agreed the purchase of a new plot near Tallinn in Estonia for the construction of a new state-of-the art logistics center.

According to Ansi Arumeel, a member of the management board at Omniva, the new facility will contain the latest parcel sorting technology making it one of the most modern logistics centers in the Baltic region.

“The new logistics center will be excellent in every aspect – in terms of workstations, technology, work processes, energy savings, and everything else,” said Arumeel. “The development of the logistics field has been turbulent in recent years, and to remain competitive, we needed to develop both our work processes and infrastructure.”

Located in the borough of Jüri to the southeast of the capital Talinn, the facility will employ at least 300 people and is scheduled for completion in the autumn of 2018. According to Arumeel, the current logistics center will be put up for sale with the stipulation that the company can operate in the building until the new facility is completed. The company also confirmed that procurement is already under way for the new sorting technology.

“For any property, the most significant aspect is its location,” added Arumeel. “In the case of the Pähklimäe tee plot, the decisive criteria included good accessibility for people and vehicles, parking, proximity of other important nodes of infrastructure and distance from the Tallinn city center, as well as possibilities for extensions.”
