DPD has opened a new €4.5m (US$5.2m) logistics center in Leiria, Portugal to strengthen its operational capacity in the central region of the country.
The 3,145m2 facility has 2,900m2 of warehouse space and can process up to 10,000 items per day. It will serve the cities of Leiria, Pombal, Caldas da Rainha, Óbidos, Peniche, Batalha and Marinha Grande and will support DPD in its commitment to deliver 30 million parcels a year in the country.
“Investment in Leiria is an integral part of our national strategy, which aims to consolidate DPD’s presence in the main regions of the country, always with a close eye on innovation and sustainability,” said Olivier Establet, CEO of DPD Portugal. “We are certain that this new center will allow us to offer a more agile, reliable and environmentally responsible service to our customers in the central region.”
The new DPD facility in Leiria will employ 50 staff and will have a dedicated fleet of 38 vehicles, including three electric ones, and six trucks that make daily connections to other stations on the network.
