Food retailer Spar has launched a partnership with Austrian Post to install over 100 new 24/7 postal stations in front of its stores across Austria, enabling customers to combine grocery shopping with parcel sending and collection.

The first postal station was opened in the parking lot in front of the Eurospar store in Vienna-Meidling, Sagedergasse 13 on September 1. It features almost 140 compartments and is accessible around the clock for picking up or sending prepaid parcels – those with return labels or parcel stamps.

Hans K Reisch, CEO, Spar AG, commented, “Being able to run as many errands as possible in one place is practical, saves time and thus improves the quality of life for the local population. That is our goal. We are therefore delighted about the new partnership with Austrian Post and look forward to having over 100 postal parcel stations in front of our Spar stores. We are starting in eastern and southern Austria, with plans to roll out across the whole of Austria.”

The postal stations will be rolled out continuously over the next few months. The first locations for new 24/7 postal stations have already been determined and will be installed in the coming weeks. There will be six locations in Vienna, three in Lower Austria, one in Burgenland, 12 in Styria and 16 in Carinthia.

Walter Oblin, CEO, Austrian Post, added, “With more than 100 new postal stations in front of Spar stores, we are setting another milestone in our digitalization and service offensive. Customers benefit from maximum flexibility and can conveniently combine their postal business with their shopping. At the same time, we are strengthening local supply throughout Austria and creating a modern infrastructure that makes everyday life easier.”
