Postal automation involves widely diverse technologies being used to try and make the logistical chain as smooth as possible. It is a matter of getting the mail from the sender to the recipient quickly, reliably and economically. Automation can be used in a range of areas in the postal sector, and with the increasing need to improve efficiency, the right automation solution is essential.

Environmental Achievement of the Year: TNT
The environment has been a major issue within the postal industry for a number of years now. Many posts around the world are investing in new environmentally friendly ways to run their operations. This can range from a new fleet of electric vehicles, a new letter recycling initiative or implementing greener solutions in a facility. A great deal of work is being done in this area to try and improve the world we live in today.

One of the main issues concerning transport and logistics is the environment. The world’s postal fleets produce a great amount of CO2 emissions and the main aim for most posts is to try and reduce this. Some of the things being considered by the posts are evaluating driving behaviours, gradually switching to using alternative forms transport and accurately planning delivery routes.

Delivery Innovation of the Year: DP DHL E-Postbrief
Customer service is essential in this part of the industry, as this is where the post and customer come face-to-face. High-quality customer service levels help the posts retain and grow their customer base. New delivery services, which add value to existing solutions, are essential. Customers’ expectations have changed and now they want more in terms of delivery options.

Supplier of the Year: Siemens Mobility
Like the service providers in the industry, the suppliers have had a challenging year. But it is the suppliers who are helping the posts to be innovative as they continue to develop new solutions, which aim to improve efficiency, reduce costs and even cut CO2 emissions. They are working with the posts to find new products, solutions and services for the future of the postal industry.

Service Provider of the Year: Deutsche Post DHL
Postal organisations around the world have had an eventful past year, especially when considering the introduction of liberalisation, decreasing mail volumes and an increasing demand for modernisation. As a result of these challenges, the posts have had to think innovatively and over the last year the sector has seen some great developments. Diversification has been key and the postal organisations are looking into new revenue streams in order to keep up with the competition.
