PostNL has announced a redefined out-of-home delivery strategy, aiming to make locker and parcel point delivery as convenient as home delivery through an integrated platform and an expanded locker network.
The strategy connects delivery choice at webshop checkouts, the digital customer journey through the MyPostNL app, and the underlying logistics network, with the parcel locker network, which is set to expand to approximately 7,500 locations over time. PostNL said the goal is to make out-of-home delivery more attractive, easy and reliable for consumers and online retailers.
The company said out-of-home delivery is growing rapidly as part of the e-commerce landscape, as consumers increasingly choose it for the ability to decide where and when they receive parcels. Parcel lockers are typically accessible 24/7 and, according to PostNL, also help delivery workers operate more efficiently.
Beyond the network expansion, PostNL is building an integrated platform connecting checkout delivery choices, app communication, parcel lockers, parcel points and the logistics network behind them.
As part of the strategy, PostNL will expand its parcel locker network to approximately 7,500 lockers by 2031, with the ambition that nearly every resident in the Netherlands will be able to reach a PostNL parcel locker within approximately seven minutes. Together, home delivery, parcel lockers and PostNL’s existing network of parcel points form the foundation of its delivery network, which the company said it aims to connect more effectively to give consumers greater freedom of choice over how they receive parcels.
