Australia Post has partnered with AI security company Alpha Level to bolster its cyber defenses and speed up detection threat across its network.
Alpha Level will apply machine learning to help efficiently collect, process and analyze billions of data points to boost the speed and accuracy of threat identification. Machine learning enables systems to rapidly analyze large data sets, learning patterns and improving decision-making over time without needing explicit programming.
Australia Post chief information security officer Adam Cartwright said the partnership with Alpha Level will enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Australia Post’s cybersecurity measures.
“Each month, our systems generate around four billion data points – from network traffic to security logs – which our team assesses for signs of malicious activity. It’s a complex, time-consuming task.
“Machine learning helps by building models that understand what ‘good’ looks like in that data, allowing us to detect threats faster and more accurately. This not only speeds up detection but strengthens our overall security in an increasingly complex digital environment.
“By bolstering our cyber posture, we’re not only protecting Australia Post’s infrastructure – we’re also helping to lift the security of the thousands of licensed post offices and small businesses that depend on our network to serve their communities,” said Cartwright.
Alpha Level was founded by Dr Josh Neil, a former principal data scientist at Microsoft with a PhD from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Neil said the partnership demonstrates how advanced machine learning can strengthen cyber defense at scale.
“By embedding world-class machine learning into Australia Post’s security operations, we’re helping to elevate threat detection speed and precision – ensuring resilience against the increasingly complex challenges in today’s digital landscape,” said Dr Neil.
Australia Post’s partnership with Alpha Level will deploy AI models that can efficiently sift through vast amounts of security alerts, reducing noise and isolating true threats for analysts to test.
“While we have a highly skilled team, bringing in global expertise, the team at Alpha Level helps us stay ahead of evolving threats and gives our people the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the field,” Mr Cartwright added.
