Poczta Polska has announced it has begun the largest IT infrastructure modernization project in its history as it focuses on reducing technological debt and improving its working environment.
The company plans to invest over zł100m (US$27m) in up to 25,000 modern computer sets with accessories. The aim is to improve the operational efficiency, safety and comfort of its employees – particularly in post offices and sorting plants.
Framework agreements have been put in place to ensure flexibility in the implementation of subsequent stages and full standardization of the IT environment. All devices will meet uniform technical requirements and current security standards, designed to implement, service and maintain a consistent technology architecture across the organization.
Paweł Raczyński, proxy of the management board of Poczta Polska for IT, said, “This is a key project as part of the digital transformation of Poczta Polska. The replacement of equipment and modernization of systems will allow the company to get out of its long-term technological debt, improve the quality of services provided and significantly improve the functioning of our outlets and sorting plants.”
Michał Zalewski, director of the IT department, added, “The value of the project exceeds zł100m, which makes it one of the largest modernization investments of this type in Poland. 100% of computers running Windows 7 and Windows 10 today will be replaced.”
The first executive agreement has already been signed, which will see 3,750 computer sets delivered to Poczta Polska’s units. Some of the deliveries have already been made.
The next stages will be carried out in accordance with the adopted schedule and will depend on the availability of financial resources. At the same time, the company is taking steps to secure financing for further stages of the program.
Broader digital transformation
The modernization of the IT infrastructure is part of the digital transformation strategy of Poczta Polska, which has been in progress for over a year. It includes about 50 priority projects with a total value exceeding zł1.4bn (US$400m). So far, 11 initiatives have been implemented.
As a designated operator, Poczta Polska is also working on the development of its digital services, including the system of electronic registered letters. The solution is reportedly already used by over 3.5 million customers, who have sent a total of over 65 million digital parcels.
This service offer is complemented by the Digital Services Platform, which enables the purchase of e-Referred packages for communication with individual and business customers and the establishment of electronic delivery boxes.
