Australia Post has announced plans to construct four new parcel facilities in regional South Australia as it looks to expand capacity and improve delivery speed in growing regional markets.
The new sites will be located in Murray Bridge, Kadina, Port Pirie and Tanunda. The purpose-built facilities will increase parcel handling capacity and support faster and more reliable deliveries in areas where online shopping demand continues to rise, Australia Post said.
Online purchases in South Australia in 2025 increased 4.9% year on year, with volumes rising 9% during the November–December peak period. The operator said 80% of households in the state now shop online, driving continued parcel growth in regional areas.
Each facility is expected to process between 2,000 and 3,700 parcels per day once operational. The buildings will also incorporate rooftop solar systems and electric vehicle charging infrastructure as part of Australia Post’s emissions reduction strategy.
Shane Plant, executive general manager of network operations at Australia Post, said the investment is intended to support long-term growth in regional delivery demand: “With 80% of South Australian households now shopping online, parcel volumes in regional areas continue to grow. These modern facilities are built to handle that growth, setting us up to support our customers into the future.”
“We’ve focused on designing sites that improve safety, increase capacity and streamline transport flow, creating more efficient workplaces for our teams so they can get on the road safely and deliver for our customers now and into the future,” Plant added.
Construction is underway at all four locations. The Murray Bridge site, covering 1,143m², is expected to open in June 2026; Kadina (1,111m²) and Port Pirie (836m²) are scheduled to open in July 2026; and the Tanunda facility (1,335m²) is due to open in August 2026.
The regional investment forms part of a broader expansion program in South Australia. Australia Post is also developing a A$500m parcel super hub in Adelaide, scheduled to open in 2028, which the company said represents its largest investment in the state to date.
