As part of its ongoing to commitment to advancing the UK’s air cargo infrastructure, FedEx has opened a state-of-the-art logistics facility half a mile from Manchester Airport.
The new facility, which has both parcel and freight capabilities, is part of a relocation of FedEx’s Manchester operations, providing the opportunity to upgrade and enhance the company’s capabilities in the Northwest region.
The 3,530m2 facility features advanced technologies including an automated sorting system and x-ray machines that will increase throughput, speed and efficiency and improve services to customers.
Steve Johnson, managing director of UK air operations at FedEx, said, “The opening of our enhanced facility in Manchester is a significant milestone for FedEx and our valued customers as we continue to advance our freight capabilities in the UK. With the rising demand for cargo aviation and the rapid growth of e-commerce, we recognize the need to reconfigure our network to prioritize both speed and efficiency.
“We are committed to setting our customers up for success in what continues to be a dynamic period for trade and logistics. We have seen firsthand the positive impact our investment in technological capabilities has had at our Stansted Airport facility for small and medium-sized enterprises. Our goal is to ensure businesses in the Northwest experience the same benefits.”
In related news, FedEx recently announced strategic improvements to its UK network with the opening of two new state-of-the-art logistics hubs close to its existing Kingsbury/Atherstone and Marston Gate sites by 2029.
