As part of its efforts to become the UK’s premier parcel delivery business, Evri has announced it is creating 5,000 new courier roles, taking its total number of self-employed couriers to 33,000.
The creation of these roles follows Evri’s recent announcement of its merger with DHL eCommerce UK in a move that will see over one billion parcels and a further one billion business letters delivered annually by the newly named Evri Group; and its acquisition of Coll-8, which will see accelerated parcel deliveries for retailers to the Republic of Ireland.
Alongside existing couriers, those joining the business can become part of the ‘Evri Plus’ initiative, a union-backed courier scheme. Evri Plus gives self-employed workers access to a range of additional benefits, including 28 days paid holiday, guaranteed national minimum wage, pension contributions and parental leave, as well as other additional flexible benefits.
“We continue to deliver phenomenal growth at Evri, and none more so than within our hard-working courier network, who are truly the backbone of our business,” commented Martijn de Lange, CEO of Evri. “We know that service, reliability and quality are critical factors for our clients and consumers, and so by expanding our self-employed network further, we remain focused on delivering in each of those areas.
“And it’s so important that we continue to support our couriers, which is why I’m so proud that we are leading the way with our pioneering ‘Evri Plus’ initiative, providing couriers with greater protection and benefits alongside the opportunity to retain the flexibility of self-employment.”
At least 1,000 of the new courier roles created will be permanent, with 4,000 additional flexible roles available to support a busy summer period and other peaks in parcel volumes throughout the year. There will be opportunities for those flexible roles to become permanent for couriers who want to build a career with Evri and continue delivering through the festive period.
