Hermes UK is to open a 78,794ft2  distribution depot in Maidstone, Kent. The center is expected to create approximately 50 full-time jobs and 100 part-time jobs and will be able to handle over 220,000 parcels each day and operate 24/7 if required.

It forms part of the ongoing investment program by Hermes UK to expand its capacity to meet the demand created by people shopping at home during the pandemic and the continuing growth in the sector.

To support Hermes’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments, the new depot comes complete with EV charging, which will support the company’s 30% electric vehicle ParcelShop fleet, and will also employ smart lighting, rainwater harvesting, low-carbon heating and solar panels.

Ross Wilson, depot general manager at Hermes UK, said, “We are all very excited here in Maidstone to be moving into our new home. It shows the faith the business has in Team Maidstone to deliver a world-class service from this world-class facility. We are all very grateful for this opportunity and would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen.”
