Australia Post has announced that it will launch its first first digital stamp alongside this year’s lunar new year stamp collection marking the Year of the Horse.

The traditional stamp series, designed by Sydney-based artist Chrissy Lau, is available at participating post offices and online. Australia Post said it will also release its first “DigiStamp” next month, combining a physical stamp with a digital collectible.

The digital version pairs a standard postage stamp with a secure digital token that can be activated by scanning a QR code on the stamp card.

According to the UK charity Citizens Advice, the number of people experiencing postal delays over the peak Christmas period last year was the highest in five years, with 16 million customers reporting a delay.

Of those 16 million, 5.7 million people suffered serious consequences as a result, missing health appointments, fines, benefit decisions and important legal documents, according to the charity.

Among those who send or receive post with Royal Mail, more than a third (36%) said they sent fewer Christmas cards in 2025 because stamps were too expensive.

Australia Post has introduced a new Counterfeit Detection Tool to combat fraudulent postage products sold online.

The technology authenticates stamps, stamped satchels and prepaid satchels sold online, automatically flagging counterfeit items and providing near real-time analytics. According to the postal operator, the system has already identified hundreds of fake products, removing several million dollars’ worth of counterfeit postage from online marketplaces.

Kevin Zuccato, general manager of group security at Australia Post, said the rise in counterfeit postage was deeply concerning and warned that those involved in producing, selling or using fake products risk prosecution.

Australia Post has opened its first Australia Post Parcels facility in Canberra this week, ahead of the upcoming busy shopping season.

The new format post office, located in Mitchell, is designed to make sending, collecting and returning parcels faster and more convenient for locals. It features 24/7 self-serve and parcel locker options. The accessible vending machines are stocked with packaging, stamps and other mailing items.

Royal Mail has announced ambitious growth plans for its out-of-home (OOH) parcel points as it aims to double its network from 24,000 locations to 46,000 by 2030. This will mean customers living in urban areas will be no more than five minutes’ walk from a locker, shop or parcel postbox, and five and 15 minutes maximum drivetime for suburban and rural areas respectively.

The expansion of its multi-channel network over the last two years is part of Royal Mail’s drive to meet growing demand for people wanting to drop off and collect parcels outside of the home.

Food retailer Spar has launched a partnership with Austrian Post to install over 100 new 24/7 postal stations in front of its stores across Austria, enabling customers to combine grocery shopping with parcel sending and collection.

The first postal station was opened in the parking lot in front of the Eurospar store in Vienna-Meidling, Sagedergasse 13 on September 1. It features almost 140 compartments and is accessible around the clock for picking up or sending prepaid parcels – those with return labels or parcel stamps.

Polish postal operator Poczta Polska has extended its e-commerce offering with global electronics manufacturer TCL, offering customers access to TVs, smartphones and other modern consumer electronics.

The post, which has been developing its online store over the past year, will also offer products from other manufacturers such as Cecotec (modern small household appliances), Ducati (electric scooters and accessories) and Neoline (video recorders). Customers also have a choice of tablets, traditional cellphones, wi-fi routers, car cameras, electric scooters and even electronic accessories for animals.

In response to lower-than-expected demand for same-day parcel delivery, Swiss Post has announced it will discontinue its notime subsidiary at the end of September 2025.

The two companies launched a consultation process on May 8 to limit the impact of staff reductions and Swiss Post will offer “alternative solutions to the business customers affected wherever possible”.

Johannes Cramer, head of logistics services and member of Swiss Post executive management, explained, “Together with notime, we have examined various options for making the service profitable.
