According to the UK charity Citizens Advice, the number of people experiencing postal delays over the peak Christmas period last year was the highest in five years, with 16 million customers reporting a delay.

Of those 16 million, 5.7 million people suffered serious consequences as a result, missing health appointments, fines, benefit decisions and important legal documents, according to the charity.

Among those who send or receive post with Royal Mail, more than a third (36%) said they sent fewer Christmas cards in 2025 because stamps were too expensive.

Omniva delivered over 50 million parcels globally in 2025, an increase of 11% compared to 2024, with 36 million parcels handled in the Baltics alone.

According to Omniva, the record-breaking parcel numbers reflect the continued growth of e-commerce, with 24% of parcels arriving in the Baltics originating from China – up from 21% in 2024.

“The largest growth came from international transit parcels, but deliveries to Latvia and Lithuania also showed strong growth,” said Sven Kukemelk, chief commercial officer of Omniva.

Royal Mail is preparing for half a million gifts to be returned this week ahead of ‘Takeback Tuesday’ – the busiest day of the year for sending back online purchases following the Christmas season.

According to Royal Mail data, the number of returns is expected to rise by about 25%, with Tuesday set to be the peak day.

This year will be the first where customers will have access to Royal Mail’s new convenient drop-off options, including proof of postage at any of the 115,000 postboxes; 3,500 solar-powered ‘postboxes of the future’ allowing for the return of larger parcels; 8,000 convenience stores across the UK which have become Royal Mail Shop outlets; and 2,600 parcel lockers available in high‑footfall locations such as Sainsbury’s stores and other major retailers.

As part of its efforts to provide safer, more sustainable and efficient parcel deliveries, Australia Post is rolling out 500 new three-wheeled Rapide 3 electric delivery vehicles.

The vehicles will be able to carry up to 150 small parcels, a 400% increase in capacity compared with Australia Post’s outgoing Honda motorbike, and will cover up to 180km on a single charge.

The state-of-the-art Sunshine Coast Parcel Facility will feature advanced automation systems to support the region’s growing parcel demand and will be able to handle 21,000 items during peak periods. It will also have enhanced safety and security features to improve team member safety by reducing touchpoints and manual handling with the installation of a large sorting system.

Australia Post delivered almost 103 million parcels between November 1 and December 31, 2024, up 3.1% on the same period in 2023 and setting a record for the postal operator.

According to its latest quarterly Inside Australian Online Shopping Report, Australia Post delivered 2,800 parcels every minute in November and December, with 7.6 million Australian households making at least one online purchase in those two months, up 2.4% on 2023.

UK delivery firm Evri has announced record parcel volumes over the peak festive period, including its best-ever week following Black Friday, where it delivered 24.7 million parcels between November 30 and December 7 – up 20.8% on the same period in 2023.

The company grew its total parcel volumes by 12% year-on-year to 173 million over the nine weeks to December 28, 2024, and delivered an average of 2.7 million parcels a day during this period.

Global logistics service provider J&T Express has hit a new milestone, handling over 100 million parcels worldwide in just a single day during this year’s Double 11 shopping festival in China and Southeast Asia on November 12.

Parcel volumes in China during the Double 11 peak (October 20-November 12) hit a daily average of 66 million – a 25% increase year-on-year (YoY) and setting a new record. Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia, the daily average parcel volume from November 1 to 11 exceeded 15 million, marking an impressive 73% YoY growth.
