SMEs across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) are accelerating their international expansion plans beyond Europe, according to a new FedEx study.

The findings suggest that nearly 50% of SMEs in the region already sell internationally, and another third are preparing to enter foreign markets.

This points to a shift in perspective: businesses that were once focused on catching up with more developed Western European markets are now positioning themselves as global competitors.

Increasing demand for e-commerce, the adoption of smart logistics and innovation in autonomous delivery have strengthened the long-term market potential, according to the consulting company.

The ‘drones for last-mile delivery market’ refers to the global ecosystem of autonomous and semi-autonomous unmanned aerial systems designed to transport parcels, medicines, groceries, food items and critical supplies from distribution hubs directly to end customers.

Asendia and Singapore Post have formed a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening cross-border e-commerce logistics in Singapore and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

The companies said the collaboration will focus on improving delivery performance, scalability and market access for businesses shipping into and out of Singapore, which they describe as a key gateway for regional e-commerce. Around 75% of online shoppers in Singapore purchase from overseas sellers, underlining the country’s role as both a destination and transit hub.

Australia Post has partnered with eBay to enable sellers on the platform to print shipping labels at participating post offices using a QR code at no additional cost.

Print in Store is designed to make it easier for Australians to sell online, making the process faster and more convenient.

This service has been made available to eBay’s Australian customer base from April 20, with sellers able to generate a QR code in the eBay platform for in-store scanning and printing.

Increasing consumer expectations around delivery performance are placing added strain on parcel carriers and online fulfillment operations, according to new research from Whistl.

The study found that damaged or missing items, along with missed deliveries, remain the most common issues affecting customer satisfaction. Customer support was also identified as a key factor, with poor service often amplifying delivery-related problems.

Younger consumers in particular are looking beyond delivery pricing, highlighting the need for more reliable delivery, improved digital experiences, flexible payment options and clearer product information.

FedEx has launched a series of webinars aimed at helping Spanish SMEs manage customs requirements and logistics challenges as they expand beyond the EU.

The program provides guidance on cross-border trade, recurring shipments and customs processes, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and navigating international markets.

According to Spain’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, merchandise exports grew by 0.7% in 2025 to reach €387.1bn (US$454.3bn), the second-highest annual figure on record.

Researchers at MIT and automation company Symbotic have developed an AI-based system designed to improve traffic flow among robots in automated warehouses, reducing congestion and increasing throughput.

The approach uses deep reinforcement learning to determine which robots should be prioritized at any given moment, combined with a planning algorithm that directs robot movements in real time. The system is designed to anticipate bottlenecks and reroute robots before congestion occurs.

In simulations based on e-commerce warehouse environments, the method achieved an average 25% increase in throughput compared with conventional approaches.

THG Fulfil has expanded its e-commerce fulfillment capacity through the deployment of robotics technology from Libiao Robotics, aimed at improving sortation efficiency and throughput.

A total of 430 robots have been introduced alongside 14 induction stations equipped with 80 Libiao 3D sorters, enabling sorting across 3,840 destinations. The system was integrated with THG Fulfil’s warehouse management system in 35 days, with full operational ramp-up completed within one week.

According to the company, the deployment has increased sortation capacity at one facility from 250,000 to 625,000 units per day.

Evri Group has announced a £4m (US$5.3m) investment in a new fulfillment center in Barnsley, UK, as part of its ongoing network expansion.

The 25,000m2 facility, located less than 100m from the company’s existing Barnsley hub, is scheduled to open in July 2026 following a fit-out phase that began after Evri took possession of the site on March 18.

The new center is designed to integrate directly with Evri’s largest operational hub, enabling parcels to enter the network on an hourly basis.

CTT – Correios de Portugal and DHL eCommerce have received unconditional approval from the European Commission for their planned joint venture, clearing a key regulatory hurdle for the transaction.

The approval, granted under the EU Merger Regulation, was the main external condition required for the deal, which was first announced in December 2024.

With this step completed, both companies will move forward with the remaining requirements to formally establish the joint venture.
