What began as a set of experimental technologies has evolved into critical national logistics infrastructure.

However, with out-of-home (OOH) use accelerating across both consumers and the rapidly expanding base of large and small online sellers, the competitive battleground has shifted. It is no longer just a case of getting the hardware right. The decisive edge now lies in interoperability, operational reliability and the ability to run locker networks efficiently at scale.

The move will take the number of InPost OTC parcel locations to more than 6,000 sites across the UK, but it also means that some other stores will no longer be part of InPost’s PUDO network. Do the pros of this move outweigh the cons? Marek Rozycki and Gary Winter discuss.

Although their presence is still emerging, these early moves hint at a broader strategic ambition: to secure a stronger role in supply chains, enhance delivery speed and gain direct access to European consumers.

This push is likely to be accelerated by geopolitical pressures, primarily the fallout from the US-China tariff war initiated under President Trump, which will accelerate Chinese efforts to diversify trade routes and reduce reliance on American logistics infrastructure.

Many parcels tend to be oversized or over-protected, leading to parcel delivery operators ‘shipping air’. In addition to this, there are existing issues with labeling, both in terms of returns and GDPR concerns over personal data. In this latest Last Mile Prophets video, Gary Winter and Marek Rozycki look into these issues and discuss how they can be solved.

The process uses GPS and location services to streamline proof of posting. The move is a response to the growing trend of sending smaller parcels, driven by the rise of second-hand fashion marketplaces.
