Australia Post has opened its largest air and sea hub at Brisbane Airport, equipped with advanced sortation technology to speed up parcel delivery for households and businesses in Queensland.

The 78,000m2 facility is reported to be capable of processing up to 250,000 parcels per day, integrating the post’s speed services, including Express Post and StarTrack premium.

Australia Post Group CEO and managing director Paul Graham was on-site to unveil the new facility, which he said will meet and surpass Queensland’s parcel delivery demands for decades to come.

Researchers at MIT and automation company Symbotic have developed an AI-based system designed to improve traffic flow among robots in automated warehouses, reducing congestion and increasing throughput.

The approach uses deep reinforcement learning to determine which robots should be prioritized at any given moment, combined with a planning algorithm that directs robot movements in real time. The system is designed to anticipate bottlenecks and reroute robots before congestion occurs.

In simulations based on e-commerce warehouse environments, the method achieved an average 25% increase in throughput compared with conventional approaches.

DPD Germany has opened a new state-of-the art parcel sorting center in Kaiserslautern in southwest Germany, which will improve delivery times for parcels throughout the Western Palatinate region.

The 31,000m2 site features a crossbelt sorting system that can process up to 5,500 parcels per hour; sorting is carried out digitally using handheld scanners to eliminate the need for additional labeling.

“With the new depot in Kaiserslautern, we are strengthening our regional presence and at the same time creating the technological basis for sustainable logistics of the future,” said Karsten Schwarz, the CEO of DPD Germany.

EAE Solutions will deliver a turn-key sorting solution to Swiss Post‘s new sorting center in Urdorf, Switzerland, that will help the operator boost its network expansion and support its long-term growth and sustainability ambitions.

The fully electric E-Cross/Loop sorter will be able to process up to 9,000 parcels per hour, supported by three fully automated induction lines, including one with a roll-container tipper.

Intelligent automation system (IAS) cameras will detect non-conveyable parcels, while dynamic speed control (DSC) technology helps to reduce wear and tear and improve the system’s energy efficiency.

Maersk has launched its Mega Distribution Centre (DC) in Malaysia. This is the company’s largest warehouse facility in Asia-Pacific and will reportedly boost Maersk’s warehouse footprint in the region by more than 30%.

The Mega DC – spanning a total floor area of nearly 180,000m2 with 100,000 pallet positions – is a multi-client facility designed to be able to handle a wide range of commodities such as food and beverage items, footwear and clothing.

Motoring brand MG Motor has partnered with XPO Logistics in a long-term agreement to strengthen its warehousing and aftermarket parts distribution.

XPO Logistics is opening a dedicated warehouse facility in Daventry, in West Northamptonshire in the UK, with approximately 40 employees and an initial 15,000m² of storage space. The unit is said to have the flexibility to upsize for MG’s future growth projections.

The new warehouse will combine the previous parts warehousing of Longbridge, West Midlands, removing inter site stock transfers, improving planning and service levels, and reducing distribution costs.

DHL Express Germany has awarded Vanderlande a contract to provide automation solutions – including the SPOX sorter – for its new facility in Cologne. The agreement was signed on October 21 at Parcel+Post Expo 2025 in Amsterdam.

This will be the first time this sorter has been installed at a DHL facility. Able to sort 6,000 items per hour, SPOX will allow DHL Express Germany to handle a mixed flow of regular and small parcels in the Cologne facility – including those as thin as 5mm.

EuroSort is demonstrating its Cross Tray Sorter at Parcel+Post Expo 2025. The solution is designed to solve the problems faced by users of a traditional crossbelt and is automatically loaded with parcels by an induction robot.

The company’s sales manager, Gert Jan Veelenturf, explained, “A crossbelt is flat with no cleats, so items can roll off when they get to corners. This sorter is fully mechanical and enclosed, meaning items stay on the belt until they get to their target.”

By sending out the items mechanically, the need for expensive motors in the carrier is eliminated, as is the need for maintenance-sensitive power transfer.

Australia Post Group has announced it will build a new A$500m (US$324m) parcel facility in South Australia, its largest ever investment in the region.

The new facility, set to open in 2028 at the former Holden site in Elizabeth, is designed to meet demand across the state for the next 20 years.

The 83,000m2 facility will be the first fully combined Australia Post and StarTrack unit and the largest in the network.

Poczta Polska has announced a major investment to fully automate letter processes by 2028. The post says the investment will be crucial for improving service quality and customer satisfaction, despite declining volumes in this segment. It is part of the organization’s Transformation Plan, which aims to boost process optimization and reduce technological debt.

New letter sorters will eliminate the need for posties to manually sort thousands of letters each morning, thereby reducing preparation time and increasing delivery efficiency, the organization said.
